The UCM node, composed of the research groups GICO (Interdisciplinary Group of Computational Optics) and GIHL (Light Beams Engineering Group), specializes in the design and characterization of structured laser beams (continuous wave and ultrashort laser pulses) and their applications in polarimetry, self-focusing, optical encryption, laser free-space optical communications, optical imaging, and optical trapping and manipulation of micro/nano-particles. This group has been a pioneer in the field of structured light since the 1993 EUREKA EU-2359 European Project. Over the past 10 years, they have published over 100 articles indexed in JCR journals.
Additionally, the GICO-UCM, with researchers Enar Franco, Óscar Martínez-Matos, and José A. Rodrigo, has developed an innovative technique to program the propagation of ultrashort laser pulses. Their experiments were conducted in the GICO-UCM laboratories and at the Ultrafast Lasers Center (CLUR) of the same university.
